Marselis
Annette Sweerts of
Amsterdam, The Netherlands has reported the following about
the Marselis family in Amsterdam. The two brothers Gabriel
and Selio Marselis assisted in the recruiting of officers to
the Danish-Norwegian army in 1657, an in the following short
genealogy we will see that this family was heavily involved
in the kingdom Denmark-Norway.
Since this is not a part of
the main genealogies presented on this site, I leave Annette
Sweerts documentation unchanged. This makes it a bit more
difficult to read, as all sources are mentioned as you read,
but on the other hand it will leave those of you with special
interest in this family with good source documentation for
further studies.
There are two famous
families, one is written Marselis and another one Marcelis,
but they have nothing to do with each other.
I Jan Marselis {Amstelodamum 38}.

castored by the towns guncastor, probably Ahashuerus

One month later there is an other order of 5 pieces.
In october he bought the old guns from Amsterdam and
let them be castored by the guncastor of Utrecht for
the Admirality. The business went well in the year
1639/1640; also for the family Trip
Celio shipped

He was not very truthworthy, because he was charged
several times for not delivering, or to many goods in
the ship what was not declared well. Most of the time
this was settled by the Admirality because they
needed him too much, but they kept an eye on him and
they let the authoroties search several his ships. He
was called - in Dutch - De Lorrendraaier (in
Norwegian: Lurendreieren), because he was not
trustworthy and because of trade with the enemy.
