(Return to Chapter
5)
A comment regarding Chapter 5 in the Ahasverus de
Créqui dit la Roche genealogy:
The signatures above are taken from a document dated
April 19th 1654. This is a notary protocol, signed on the very date
of the burial of their mother Gertrude Rengers. In this document, Ahasverus
de Créqui dit la Roche and his sister Judith who was married
to de Parceval "abandons" the household of their parents and
leaves it for their "two brothers squire Johan and Bartholomeus
de Crequi and their two sisters ladies Geertruijt and Maria de Crequi
to retain the household with the four of them".
From this document, we can draw the clear conclusion
that Jean de Créqui dit la Roche and Gertrude Rengers had the
following six children alive at the time of her death:
- Jonkheer Jean de Créqui dit la Roche
- Jonkheer Ahasverus de Créqui dit la Roche
- Jonkheer Bartolomeus de Créqui, chevalier
de la Roche
- Gertrujit de Créqui
- Maria de Créqui
- Judith de Créqui
From a document dated November 2, 1650, we know that another unnamed son of Gertrude
Rengers was buried on that date with the church bells ringing for three
poses, or one hour: "de soon van Joefvrou Laros in de kerck begraven
3".

to Judick de Crequi [signs] and squire Ahasverus de Crequi [signs] for
themselves, as children of the late squire Johan de Crequi Sr. de la
Rosse and lady Geertruijt Rengers. They abandon the household of their

Witnesses: squire Bartholomeus de Crequi [ridder
means knight, heer means lord or priest, but I do not know what ridderheer
means] living at The Hague [signs: B. de Crequi chevalier de la Roche]
and Vranck Claesz Colen [signs]
of course the notary also signs: Jeremias Lammens
Our local historian in Monster, who found the
above document on February 16th in the State Archove in The Hague. comments:
It is highly unusual to have one of the people mentioned in the statement
also as a witness [Bartholomeus]. Vranck Claesz Colen is a local inhabitant
and a son-in-law of the old notary. There are always two witnesses to
statements recorded by a notary.
