The information in this chapter is collected from various
sources by Annette Sweerts, Amsterdam, and edited by Carsten Berg Høgenhoff,
Oslo. It presents some families and people in the circle around the
Sweers family. Because of its interest in the Netherlands and other
places outside of Scandinavia, this particular chapter is presented
in English, but with a few entries not yet translated from its original
Dutch.
The Sweers family and its connection with the de
Créqui dit la Roche family is presented in Chapter 5.2. Here,
we see that Judith Sweers came from a family of some importance in its,
among whom her uncle, Vice Admiral Isaac Sweers (1622 to 1673) is best
known today.
As in chapter 5.2, the main source has been Ms Annette
Sweerts who has performed her investigation on-site in the Netherlands.
If you should have any comments or questions, both she and I will be
happy to hear from you. Please send an E-mail to Carsten Berg Høgenhoff
(address: See eMail in left frame) - and I shall forward it also
to Ms Sweerts.
Ahasverus
de Créqui dit la Roche and his in-law relation to Gerard Coster
The summer of 1657, Ahasverus de Créqui dit
la Roche traveled to Norway where he was emplyed as an army captain.
Immediately upon his arrival to Norway, he returned to Amsterdam with
the mission to buy weapons and ammunition for his new employers. Later
the same autumn, he returned to Norway with - among other things - the
very first mortar to be used by the Norwegian army. This mortar was
manufactured by the gunsmith Gerard Coster
.
There was some - if not at all close - family connetion
between Annette Sweerts and Gerard Coster:
Aernout Sweers (grandfather of Judith Sweers (wife
